On February 12, 1778, the Marquis de Broglie sold the lands, fiefs and lordship of Aveny to the Lady of Fayet. At that time, the castle built on the foundations of an eleventh century stronghold was in a pitiful state, the ground floor of the castle was as uninhabitable as a cellar, notes Alain de Fayet. So from 1779 to 1794 restoration work was carried out. The Bridge of Aveny
Replacing an original wooden bridge, this structure was built between 1744 and 1746 by the engineer of Ponts et Chaussées Martinet. It is in freestone and has all the characteristics of 18th century bridges: bridge with basket-handle arches; triangular symmetrical front and rear beaks; cornice at the base of the parapet. The central arch was rebuilt in 1872-1873, then in 1911. The bridge has been closed to traffic since 1993.
